New, Green Shoots in Oak Class
Updated: Sep 21, 2022
Year 3 children have settled well into Oak Class and are looking forward to new experiences in Key Stage 2. Huge thanks to all the Year 4 children who have been so welcoming to their new classmates and teacher!
The children have all now received their new Reading Diaries, could I request that you read with your children at least three times a week to support their reading. Evidence shows that regular reading supports writing skills and general literacy so your role is vital to your child's progress. For this term, Autumn Term 1 Spellings have been attached to the Reading Diary so that you know where to find them. They are also on line on the school website under the Curriculum - Oak headings, simply click the appropriate Year 3 or 4 spellings link. Spelling tests will be taken each Friday morning with the first test falling Friday 23rd September 2022.
This week the children continued to approach their learning with great enthusiasm and focus. On Wednesday, as part of our Geography work, we went for a lovely walk through the village in the autumn sunshine. The children completed fieldwork which involved finding eight points on a compass, sketching local architecture and measuring and mapping the local playing field.
On Friday, and in celebration of the life of our wonderful monarch Queen Elizabeth, the children made marmalade sandwiches which they ate whilst watching a short film. The film, of course, was of The Queen meeting Paddington Bear eating their own marmalade sandwiches!
