Bug Hotels

This afternoon, we have been constructing our bug hotels. First of all, we had to build the structure – some of us chose to do this with wood and tacks. Once our structures were complete, we went into the allotment area to fill our hotels. Hopefully we get some miniature visitors soon!

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of technology, which calls on young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers and more, to help to create a better internet.
This year the campaign will be focusing on change online, this includes covering:
• Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
• Using the internet to make change for the better
• The changes young people want to see online
• The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline
Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote at Sheriffhales and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasise the online safety
messages we deliver throughout the year.
We would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home. To help you with this, for the UK Safer Internet Centre have created some free activities and information for parents and carers which are available at:
saferinternet.org.uk/SID-parents.
Whether you have 5 minutes to start a conversation or hours to spare, there are top tips, quizzes and films which you can use at home with your child.

New Books!

Lime Class are very happy with our new books, which have kindly been donated by the PTFA. We are really enjoying reading new releases by some of our favourite authors!

Discovery Narrative

Over the last three weeks, we have been learning about Charles Darwin and his voyage to South America. We wrote discovery narratives based on his journey and discovering new species.

Programming Micro:bits

In Computing today, we have been learning how to use conditions to run a program. We had to create a code using the ‘if…’ blocks. This meant that we could make the the micro:bit complete actions in different scenarios.

Book Club

Book Club is held on a Monday Lunchtime between 12.40pm and 1pm. At book club, we discuss our favourite books and authors as well as reading together. We have got lots of fantastic ideas planned including illustrating, book reviews and creating a reading scrapbook to share with the other classes.

Growing Learning Power in Lime

We have a new Lime tree in Lime class. This tree is home to four animals that will help us grow learning power:

  • Reciprocal Ant
  • Resourceful Beaver
  • Resilient Tortoise
  • Reflective Owl

When children show examples of any of these four learning powers, they can earn a leaf for the tree.

Parliament Week

Lime class had a fantastic week in November learning all about UK Parliament and Government. We spent the week focussing on British Values (Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Democracy) and discussing how they effect the way we live in the United Kingdom. We drew maps of Sheriffhales and discussed issues in the local area. At the end of the week, we wrote letters to our local MP Mark Pritchard in preparation for his visit to us.
