headteacher message, summer term 2 week 2

Dear families,

We have beaten the awful weather and managed to get outside in every bit of sunshine possible!

On Monday, we welcomed Brian Welti, the High Sheriff of Shropshire, who officially opened our preschool with our specially commissioned Big Red Scissors to cut the ribbon. Lottie-Lou accepted a commemorative plaque from the Sheriff, who was wearing his traditional dress and in the afternoon, the whole school and some parents enjoyed ice-cream and a party.

Science Club started this week: any elephant owners amongst you can now ask science club how to make elephant toothpaste!

Oak class have been under the sea (see below) and Lime class enjoyed a whole day of pro sports coaching.

The PTFA ran their fabulous pop-up shop for Someone Special, a regular feature instead of Mothers’ Day or Fathers’ Day so that all our children can give a special something to a special someone.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

headteacher message Summer term 2 week 1

Dear families,

Another week with so much to share and celebrate!

Children in KS1 have been enjoying maths with Fifi the puppet, as the school works with a maths expert and Miss Boddison, our maths lead, to introduce Mastering Number. This is a fantastic teaching resource which we are really excited to be rolling out across Early Years and KS1.

I can see from my office window that the peas and beans have been planted, with much care, by Willow class: Oak’s seedlings are just showing through now. It’s not the easiest year to be a seedling but our children are working hard to develop their vegetable patches.

On Wednesday, after Lime’s swimming, we welcomed many of you to one of our Open Afternoons. The children love the opportunity to show you the work they are so proud of, and share the stories behind their activities in school.  Thank you for the lovely feedback  – we have two of these afternoons each year, with two parents’ evenings as well.

After school, our KS2 rounders team raced off to Idsall for a fun rounders tournament, and yet again, brought it home. Not only did our intrepid team achieve the second highest number of rounders, but they were also recognised for their sportsmanship, bring home the TEAMWORK award. Well done to all of them, and thank you to Miss Boddison for taking them.

Mrs Vaughan and I were so pleased to welcome our new Reception 24 parents this week and we are looking forward to the official opening of the Preschool on Monday. The High Sheriff of Shropshire is coming to do the honours and in the afternoon, everyone is welcome to join us for ice cream from 2.30pm.

We finished the week with a jam-packed Star Assembly…jam-packed with trophies, medals and certificates. Our children really are very talented, very involved and very busy! Thank you to our governors for joining our assembly this week.

Have a lovely weekend!

headteacher message summer term 1, week 7

Dear Parents / Carers,

What a full-on week we’ve had! Your children have been busy with all sorts of fun learning, growing hearts and minds inside the classroom and out! Acorns and Willow loved their Dinosaur Day (raaaaah), with a special visit from a baby dinosaur, fossils, dinosaur toast, footprints, stories, hats – the Jurassic lot.

All classes took part in Outdoor Learning Day.  The children love being outside and there is so much learning to be done there. We are thrilled to launch our £10,000 fundraiser with the PTFA, for all kinds of outdoor equipment to support our children’s outside education: look out for more news on that!

I took 12 swimmers from Oak and Lime to a swimming gala this week. I was definitely not welling up when we won the first race (a relay) and it was a chlorine splash that got me after we won the second one (another relay). The way our children love and support one another is so special – other staff at the gala have told me how outstanding our team’s support was. All swimmers gave all they had and it was a terrific morning’s sport: respect to them all.

We also had a mini science workshop, which included (not) setting fire to Miss Boddison’s hand (a particularly tense moment of scientific exploration, and not to be tried at home), acids, alkalis and bases, and bottle-popping chemical reactions. What’s not to love? We hope to run a science club next term – please check emails for more details.

Oak and Lime classes went to RAF Cosford today, bringing some of their history learning alive. Lime have been learning about World War II and today got the chance to see planes, tanks, helicopters and all sorts of displays and tours.

We also enjoyed inviting Oak and Lime’s Special People into school to share lunch together!

Thank you to all the staff team for making this week such a good one!

Have a lovely half term – see you back on June 3rd.
